The startup, Cemvita Factory is making strides on the development of microbial production jet fuels. With United Airlines investing in a way to make the aviation industry more sustainable. Using Carbon Dioxide, Light and Synthetic Microbes, if successful in creating these Sustainable Airline Fuels (SAF) they would help the industry move away from traditional fuels, which currently are responsible for almost 3% of the planet’s carbon emissions.
Exploring the feasibility for commercial use has been a big problem for the aviation industry. However, recent advances in genetic technology have meant that new tools are available to help test and alter this material quicker, with a higher degree of precision. These fuels, if commercially viable will change the global industry to a net-zero carbon emitter making air travel more sustainable, more economical and help break the hold that fossil fuels hold over us.
"The Aviation industry is one of the biggest single carbon emitters in the world. Removing that will absolutely help us on our way to becoming a fully sustainable society" Shivvy Jervis
