Can they truly make traffic jams the thing of the past?
Researchers at Birmingham’s Aston University have developed a smart light system. This self-learning system can view any traffic junction, real or simulated and is able to read live footage and adapt traffic lights to ensure the steady flow of traffic.
Aiming to curb congestion and pollution this technology will eliminate the need for stop/start traffic, miles long traffic jams and as a fantastic by-product will help curb congestions and pollution in urban areas as well saving drivers hundreds of pounds in wasted fuel and lost income.
Currently tested on simulations only, they are to be tested in the real world by end of 2022
